The difference between a 1 User and a 2 Users licence is not how many computers you may install on. You can install the software on as many machines as you like. What is limited is how many people can be signed in at the same time.
What actually happens with one seat
A 1 User licence permits one active session. Install it on the bench PC and the laptop if you want — but the moment you sign in on the laptop, the bench session ends. If you work alone and move between machines, that is fine and barely noticeable.
If two technicians are working at once, it is not fine. It looks like the software randomly logging people out, and it generates a support message roughly once a week until somebody works out why.
When you genuinely need two seats
Two benches running simultaneously. That is the whole test. Not two computers, not two locations you visit on different days — two people needing the board open at the same moment.
The maths
Two seats always cost less as one 2 Users licence than as two separate 1 User licences of the same length. On the six-month option the saving is meaningful, and it rises with the twelve-month one. There is also an administrative saving that people underrate: one expiry date instead of two. Staggered renewals are how workshops end up with one technician locked out mid-job.
Choosing a duration
- 3 months — trying it on real work before committing. The cheapest way in.
- 6 months — the usual pick. Long enough to stop thinking about it, short enough not to be a big outlay.
- 12 months — lowest cost per month. Right if schematics are already part of how you work.
Can you change later?
There is no in-place upgrade from one seat to two. If a second technician joins mid-licence, either buy them a separate licence for the remainder or wait for renewal and switch the whole workshop to a 2 Users plan then. If you are close to renewal, waiting is usually the cheaper move — ask us and we will do the arithmetic with you.
